Google Bookmarks
Another free way to add additional weight
behind your Google web site submissions is to use the
bookmark tool inside your iGoogle account.
If you have not submitted your Google xml
sitemap yet then you may not have opened a free Google
account. You will need to do this for you to use the
bookmark feature in iGoogle. From the Google home page you
can click on the sign-in link at the top right and log-in.
If you do not have an account just click on the Create an
Account Now link and follow the steps.
Once you are logged in just click on the
iGoogle link option at the top of the page and you
will arrive at the home page that you can personalize as you
wish. By default you will see lots of options already added
including news information, weather, calendar and the
popular You Tube video presentations.
On the top right hand side you will see a
link Add Stuff. Just click on this and on the next
page take a look at the left hand column. Here you will see
a title Popular which lists the most popular ways you can
personalize your iGoogle home page. In this list just click
on Tools and scroll down until you see the
Bookmarks option. Just click on the Add it Now
link.
When you go back to the iGoogle home page
you will see the bookmarks option box added to the top of
the left hand column. This is the best place for it and
Google cleverly places it here by default. Just type in your
web site URL and a title for your bookmark and save it. When
you refresh the home page you will see that your web site
bookmark is now in place. This is a direct link to your web
site from Google so you have a great free one way backlink
from the No1 search engine in the World.
You can add more web pages to your
bookmark feature if you wish and more aggressive marketers
will open various iGoogle accounts and add their web site
URL on each one. Some marketers have found the additional
bookmark weight has increased ranking in the main Google
index. Be very careful not to abuse this free promotion for
your web site. If you do it too aggressively you could see
your web site de-indexed from Google. Not something that you
want to happen.
It could be quite natural for your web
site to be bookmarked by up to 20 iGoogle accounts but any
more than this and you are taking risks so just try and be
natural with your bookmarks for your web site.
